The current economic collapse in Lebanon has a violent effect on LGBTIQ+ people, especially on those of us already in precarity.
Medically, many have outstanding medical bills, and the number of individuals who cannot afford treatment, hospital check-up and surgery, grows day by day.
Several people have lost their jobs, and they still have family members to attend to.
There is no unemployment support in Lebanon, or assistance for business that had to shut down.
We daily process requests of assistance from persons and NGOs. We work with individuals and institutions, families and groups, in Lebanon and abroad, to help as much as we can, but this is not enough.
Running this massive operation requires funds to cover logistics, technical, and online expenses. While the volunteers doing this work do not ask to be paid, we do compensate them to cover their expenses at the very least. This is no salary or benefits, only reimbursement of expenses.
We also offer the option to directly connect those who wish to help with the people who need the assistance, so cash doesn’t transit via us, and so 100% of your money goes to those who need it. We always offer technical and logistical support, and we ensure that the entire process is carried with sensitivity and elegance, so the dignity of people is always upheld.
As the urgency today is to support people with their basic needs, most of our programs are halted now. Yet, we are still focused on decriminalization of LGBTIQ+ status, as it is the cornerstone to improve the overall realities of LGBTIQ+ people, of all nationalities, who live in Lebanon.
