At Home with EFF: Pride Edition

On Wednesday June 16th, 2021, EFF held an At Home with EFF livestream panel to highlight LGBTQ issues, facilitated by EFF Technologist Daly Barnett.

This year's panel featured

The conversation featured a broad range of expert opinions and insight on a variety of topics, from how to navigate the impacts of tightly controlled social media platforms, to ways to conceptualize open source licensing to better protect LGBTQ+ individuals.

 
 

LGBTQ+ POC Global South Summit

 

LGBTQ+ people of color living along the Equator and in the Global South constitute the largest population of LGBTQ+ in the world. Yet, when stories of these communities are told, they often follow some tragic occurrence, and these lives and experiences are often pathologised.

DBGM organized the LGBTQ+ POC Global South Summit from May 26 to June 30 2021. The Summit brought together LGBTQ+ people of color and highlighted them, with a particular emphasis on people’s lives, struggles, resilience, and challenges, in addition to new opportunities, and calls for change from governments.

Participants came from Central and South America, the Caribbean (Dutch, English, French and Spanish), the Middle East and North Africa, Africa, Asia and SouthEast Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands highlight.

Beirut Pride curated the MENA program that was took place June 28-30, 2021, and gathered participants around the theme “Visibility Deconstructs Myths, Lies and Prejudices”. Participants came from Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, and Tunisia, in addition to Arabs from the diaspora, living in Canada, Germany and the US.
